1. Who we are

Digital Skills Academy is an online learning platform operating in Kenya. This policy explains how we handle personal data in line with the Data Protection Act, 2019.

2. What we collect

Account data: name, email address, phone number, county and any profile details you add.

Learning data: courses viewed, lesson progress, quiz attempts, project submissions and certificates.

Payment data: the M-PESA phone number used, the amount, the transaction reference and the payment status returned by Safaricom. We never see or store your M-PESA PIN.

Referral data: the referral code used at sign-up, the resulting relationship, rewards and wallet ledger entries.

Technical data: basic device and log information used to keep the platform secure.

3. How we use it

To create and secure your account, activate and maintain membership, deliver courses and track your progress, issue certificates, process payments and referral rewards, review withdrawal requests, respond to support requests, and detect fraud or abuse.

4. Legal basis

We process data to perform our contract with you, to comply with legal obligations, and for our legitimate interest in keeping the platform safe. Marketing messages are sent only with your consent and you can opt out at any time.

5. Sharing

We share data only with service providers who help us run the platform: our cloud hosting and database provider, and Safaricom for M-PESA payments. We do not sell personal data. We may disclose data where required by law.

6. Security

Access to your data is restricted by row-level database security so you can only reach your own records. Financial operations run on the server with audit logging. Payment provider credentials are stored in a secure secrets store and never exposed in the browser.

7. Retention

Account and learning data is retained while your account is active. Financial and audit records are retained for as long as required by law, even after account closure.

8. Your rights

You may access, correct, or request deletion of your personal data, object to processing, or request a copy of your data. Contact support@digitalskillsacademy.co.ke and we will respond within the statutory timeframe.

9. Cookies

We use only the storage necessary to keep you signed in and to remember a referral code during sign-up. We do not run third-party advertising trackers.
